The New Doctor Lands This August

What a pleasant surprise it was to get home today and see that there was a teaser trailer for Series 8 on YouTube! Have you seen it yet? No, yes? Either way, here it is for you !

Alright, let’s microanalyze the who trailer… Um, Capaldi was in it, maybe and there were sparks from the console… Okay, so there wasn’t too much there to really get you excited, except maybe the date. The new Doctor lands this August. Start counting down the days!

New Series 8 Photos-Spoilers

Some new photos have recently turned up from the filming of Series 8. None of them are super spoilery, but if you haven’t heard the latest casting news, then you might want to avoid them.

The photos also feature some sexy orange space suits that we’ve seen a few times over the past five years.

I love this photo, it’s a classic pose. I can’t wait to see what they’re looking at!

So, how much longer do we have to wait before we get official confirmation about the premiere date? At least then we can start counting the days until Capaldi gets his first full episode!

Restoring the Classics

The RT released a YouTube video last week showing some of the restoration work being done on Enemy Of The World and Web Of Fear. Worth noting is that the video was shot before the omnirumour even broke in June last year.

12 to 1 Full Circle?

Den of Geek had an interesting article up about Series 8. There are some minor spoilers in here, so please look away if you want everything to be a surprise.

There was some casting news previously, notably that there would be a new ‘companion’ in Danny Pink, a teacher at Coal Hill School. Whether he is a real companion traveling with the Doctor in the tardis remains to be seen. Also joining the cast is a younger girl, who will play his sister, a pupil at the school. Don’t forget Clara was a teacher there as well.

Let me just get my checklist out… Okay, Ian? Check. Barbara? Check. Susan? Check. Older Doctor? Check. It looks like they may be setting things up to mirror the original crew of the tardis. What does this mean for series 8? Are they going to battle cave men and try to start fire? Meet Marco Polo again? Unlikely, but a possible return to that original dynamic is exciting and intriguing!

It’s been a long wait since it was announced that Peter Capaldi would take over the role of the Doctor last fall. Though we still have MONTHS to go before Series 8 starts up, here’s a little something to pass the time.

Peter Capaldi is featured on the cover of the latest issue of Radio Times, which is out now. Not only that, but Steven Moffat gives an interview and talks about Day Of The Doctor and what he looks for in a new Doctor.

“When you choose a Doctor, you want somebody who is utterly compelling, attractive in a very odd way. None of the Doctors are conventionally attractive, but they’re all arresting. Handsome men don’t quite suit. Matt Smith’s a young, good-looking bloke from one angle but is actually the strangest looking man from another. You need that oddity…”

Doctor Returns to a Classic Location!- Spoilers

The BBC has released more information regarding an upcoming episode from season 8! The episode, directed by Peter Harness, will feature Hermione Norris

Steven Moffat had this to say:

…For the first time since 1984, the Doctor Who production team is heading to Lanzarote. The Doctor is returning to the scene of an old adventure – but there have been sinister changes since his last visit.

Lanzarote hasn’t been seen since 1984, when the fifth Doctor faced the Master in Planet Of Fire!

OMNI Denied!

We might as well start with the biggest news coming last week. In the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine they published an article with statements denying the omnirumour!

Bold Prediction?

Everyone involved with the omnirumour has been shying away from making predictions about the next announcement, but TIMD is confident that we can predict when it’s not going to happen.

Underwater Menace Update Redux

Also in that DWM article was a little snippet about the fate of Underwater Menace. Recon? Seriously?

Omnirumour Executed

With all the serious stuff being talked about, Martin decided we needed a little laughter in our lives, so he takes a look at the ‘death’ of the omni.

German Bluray Update

There’s been a development in the German bluray release of Adventures in Space and Time. It had a release date and special features announced.

Doctor Who Dark Journey

Speaking of #FanProducedFriday, I talked to MA Tamburro the Director and Producer behind the project where the Doctor and Sherlock Holmes team up to defeat Jack The Ripper.

Time To Run

Finally Wins Technical BAFTA!

Who ever said “third time is the charm” has obviously never worked on Doctor Who and been up for technical BAFTA. The show has been nominated for one for the past 6 years and lost each time. Now, finally, in its seventh attempt it takes home the prize! The Day Of The Doctor won for Special, Visual and Graphic Effects. Not only that, but An Adventure in Space and Time also won for Make Up and Hair Design.

New Writer for Series 8?-Spoilers

There was a tweet the other day from someone asking Peter Harness if he was writing an episode of Doctor Who. He replied with “Nosey Parker”, but didn’t deny it. So is the Case Histories and Wallander writer penning one for Doctor Who? Who knows. Even if he is, that doesn’t mean it will be one airing this season.

Other confirmed or speculated writers for series 8 include Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss, Phil Ford, Gareth Roberts and Steve Thompson.
