TIMD Featured on Gallifrey Stands Podcast

Last Friday I rushed home from work, shovelled some food into my mouth and then ran to the computer. Why? So I could participate in the Gallifrey Stands podcast. When you add in the time difference between Canada and the UK, it made for a late night session for host Doctor Squee! We talked about Patrick Troughton (of course), AM Audio Media’s Dark Journey, missing episodes, missing episode discussion groups and of course Troughtonismydoctor.com! Take a few minutes and check it out!

TIMD’s Dan Collins On Who Wars Podcast

Recently at the Toronto Comicon I had the chance to meet the Doctor Who Dark Journey guys in person for the first time. It was a real treat to finally shake hands with Andrew “the Cool Beans Doctor” Chalmers and Mike Tamburro after spending so much time interviewing them and speaking to them about Dark Journey online. Things were going very smoothly until Mike decided to turn the tables on me. Now instead of being the interviewer I became the interviewee as he did an off the cuff interview for Who Wars, a podcast that they contribute to!  Give it a listen! I look forward to seeing Andrew and Mike at the next convention!

Cool Beans Doctor At Comicon

There is a companion who is going to be at the Toronto Comicon this coming weekend, but now there’s a Doctor as well. Karen Gillan will be attending the show, known of course for her role as Amy Pond. Joining her (though I am sure a wall of security will keep them from ever meeting) are the guys from Doctor Who Dark Journey including Andrew Chalmers, the Cool Beans Doctor!

If you are in the Toronto area this weekend, check out the show! AM Audio Media (www.amaudiomedia.com) will be at Toronto Comic Con at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre March 20, 21, 22 – Booth A182. Join the award winning cast and crew, chat about the series with them. Not only can you meet the guys and gals, but you can also listen to a preview of the upcoming Series 2, be amonst the first to purchase the first pressing of Dark Journey on CD, and help support them by spending all your comic money on their swag, including Doctor Who and Dark Journey buttons!

And if you are real lucky you might see me there. I will be in attending on Sunday and will be hanging out with the guys for a while!

Happy New Year from TIMD

Well January 1st has rolled around once more and from everyone here at TIMD let me wish you a happy New Year! It’s been quite a year for us. Last January I was just getting my start in the world of Doctor Who news.

Starting at Doctor Who Worldwide on January 6th,  I made the leap to my own sit in March, continuing on as a mainstream DW news site. Over the past year we have gotten a few awesome interviews (Neil Perryman and Andrew Cartmel) and talked about missing episodes and Series 8 spoilers, all before I decided a change of direction would be nice.

Any site can talk about the latest news and rumours, so I broke away from that pack and decided to focus on the fans and what they are doing to make Doctor Who one of the world’s biggest franchises.  I talked to fans who made their own tardis consoles, fans that published their reviews in e-books and fans that have made their own audio dramas!

So, from me to you, thanks for sticking with me and making this last year awesome! And to all those who were active participants in my venture, writers like Martin, Gary and Andrew, interviewees like Museum Dave, Andrew Chalmers and Mike Tamburro, I consider you friends, one and all!

The pace of posts may have slowed slightly, but I remain committed to being the number one site by fans, for fans and about Doctor Who fans!

Capalday is coming!

Over the last couple of weeks, the media circus for the launch of Series Eight of Doctor Who has gathered apace, as August 23rd looms. Such has been the level of coverage, it would be quicker for TIMD to report what’s not been reported, but in brief…..

Tour!

Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman, and Steven Moffat have been jet-setting around the globe on their promotional world tour. Here’s Peter and Jenna in Seoul.

Rumours!

Jenna Coleman is rumoured to be leaving in this year’s Christmas Special. The BBC cannot confirm or deny this, and Jenna herself has been cagey about her future in interviews, stating that she takes it a year at a time. Sound like she’s leaving to you? You decide.

More Leaks!

Following the leak of the Series Eight premiere, Deep Breath in unfinished workprint form, episodes two and three (Into the Dalek and Robot of Sherwood) then leaked to file sharing sites in the same form in rapid succession in the last week. There is talk on forums that episodes four, five, and six have also now been leaked.

We’ve already talked a little about the danger of leaks, after the scripts of the first five episodes recently found their way into the public domain, but, people, just wait. These episodes are unfinished and watermarked. They have unfinished effects, gaps, and they’re in black and white! Much as we abhor a vacuum, Doctor Who starts again on Saturday!

Some of TIMD’s friends have seen Deep Breath already at the Cardiff screening. We’re envious, but from what we hear, what’s coming will be well worth the wait.

Titles!

It’s been revealed that the new titles for Series Eight are based on an excellent fan-made effort by Billy Hanshaw. Speaking at the New York screening of Deep Breath, Steven Moffat said: “Hanshaw created this title sequence, put it up on YouTube. I happened across it, and it was the only new title idea I’d seen since 1963. We got in touch with him, and said, ‘OK, we’re going to do that one.’”

The credits also feature a new arrangement of the theme tune by Murray Gold. Billy will receive a credit for his concept in the new series closing credits. You can see Billy’s original below.

More Titles!

The BBC have announced the full titles, plus writing and directing credits for the whole of Series Eight. Interestingly, Steven Moffat has a number of co-writing credits this year, perhaps as a transparency measure by the BBC.

Moffat’s predecessor Russell T. Davies frequently wrote the final draft of other writers’ scripts, but only took credit for this on the 2009 specials. Whether this means Moffat has rewritten other scripts uncredited in the past is unknown, but it’s an interesting new policy. Here are the titles:

Episode 1: Deep Breath
Written by Steven Moffat
Directed by Ben Wheatley

Episode 2: Into The Dalek
Written by Phil Ford and Steven Moffat
Directed by Ben Wheatley

Episode 3: Robot Of Sherwood
Written by Mark Gatiss
Directed by Paul Murphy

Episode 4: Listen
Written by Steven Moffat
Directed by Douglas Mackinnon

Episode 5: Time Heist
Written by Stephen Thompson and Steven Moffat
Directed by Douglas Mackinnon

Episode 6: The Caretaker
Written by Gareth Roberts and Steven Moffat
Directed by Paul Murphy

Episode 7: Kill The Moon
Written by Peter Harness
Directed by Paul Wilmshurst

Episode 8: Mummy On The Orient Express
Written by Jamie Mathieson
Directed by Paul Wilmshurst

Episode 9: Flatline
Written by Jamie Mathieson
Directed by Douglas Mackinnon

Episode 10: In The Forest Of The Night
Written by Frank Cottrell Boyce
Directed by Sheree Folkson

Episode 11/12 Dark Water/Death In Heaven
Written by Steven Moffat
Directed by Rachel Talalay

See you on the 23rd!

Restoring the Classics

The RT released a YouTube video last week showing some of the restoration work being done on Enemy Of The World and Web Of Fear. Worth noting is that the video was shot before the omnirumour even broke in June last year.

Help Wanted

Finally we have a help wanted add for TIMD. We are looking for someone who follows news for the new series and would be interested in contributing small write ups as it happens.

Happy Mother’s Day!

This is a shout out to all the mothers out there! We appreciate everything that you’ve done for us. Think about it, we wouldn’t have a show like Doctor Who without mothers who encouraged their children to follow their hearts into acting or writing, or mothers who let their kids play with a video camera or dream up new and wacky costumes.

We also wouldn’t have this site without a wife and mother who is very tolerant (most days) of the amount of time her husband spends online working, so Happy Mother’s Day to my wife Sarah, the mother of my beautiful children and a special Happy Mother’s day to Gary’s wife, Jen, who has made plenty of similar sacrifices.

Remember, the moms of today are tickling, hugging, teaching, scolding, kissing and encouraging the children that will grow up to make Doctor Who for the next 25 years and for that we salute you!

Monday Morning News Round Up- April 21

Well, we might as well start this week with the big news or lack there of. Marco Polo was not announced.  This shouldn’t be a big surprise to anyone, especially since most of those with source information had already started backpedaling in the previous weeks. So… Easter without Marco, what does that mean to the omnirumour? Check out my OmniMusings.

UWM

But don’t confuse no announcement with a boring, unexciting week. It was far from that. We had an Underwater Menace surprise via facebook that was quickly taken down, and then there was that picture of Phil Morris in Sierra Leonne that he tweeted. So all in all it was still a busy week for the omnirumour, even if, once again, there was nothing solid that came out of it.

TIMD Update- Month 1

Troughton Is My Doctor was born out of necessity. Those of you who have been with us since our first post know that it was the absence of Doctor Who Worldwide (where I had previously been posting my articles) that caused me to dust off this old blog and start my own Doctor Who news and rumours site.

Well TIMD has reached its one month birthday and to celebrate we are giving each of you a Marco Polo dvd*! Wait, what? Oh… Never mind.

Anyway, a month ago I deleted all the old and forgotten blogs I had started about music and watching William Hartnell stories, bought the domain name, changed the theme and started fresh.

Though I began this project all by myself, Gary Morris and Martin Ruddick joined me very early on, bringing valuable technical insight and amazing Who related opinions. Al Miller wandered in a few weeks later with his amazing Podcastrovalva segments and recently world traveller Andrew Boland has joined the team. The five of us span much of the globe, a couple Canadians, a Briton and an Aussie living in Japan! But you, our readers, reach even further than that.

We have had visitors from all around the world. Obviously the UK is the biggest supporter, but we have viewers in Germany, Australia, New Zealand, The Netherlands, heck even Brazil! From the Ukraine to Puerto Rico and Bulgaria, we have accommodated Doctor Who fans from all over the world. And lots of them, too.

In the past 29 days TIMD has received more than 10,000 hits and published more than 50 articles. We’ve talked about the omnirumour and series 8, New and Classic Who, everything and anything!  During that time the website became a sort of unofficial supporter of the Doctor Who Missing Episode Discussion Group on Facebook, providing updates on it’s growth, and also seen the return of Doctor Who Worldwide and its forum The Panopticon a few weeks ago. But don’t worry, we aren’t done yet. No, we are really just getting started

So from the TIMD team, thanks for joining us and stick around because there’s plenty more to come! Follow @troughtonsmydoc to get hear about updates as they happen.

*Unfortunately even if Marco Polo had been released, we are too poor to provide you with a free copy. Sorry.
