Everyone knows what November 23rd is. It’s the anniversary of the first ever broadcast of An Unearthly Child back in 1963. This year the Doctor Who Missing Episode Discussion Group on Facebook are celebrating the entire black and white era of Doctor Who with a double comment a long featuring the first and the last black and white episodes! It starts with An Unearthly Child at 7PM UK time (2PM EST) on the 23rd and finishes with War Games episode 10 at 8 PM UK.
The event, dubbed “From Totters Lane to Time Lords”, will also feature some very unique prizes. The good folks over at AM Audio Media have donated a small speaking role in season two of Doctor Who Dark Journey. Your voice could be featured in Canada’s premiere Who related audio drama and heard around the world! Also up for grabs is a brand new t shirt designed exclusively for this event by Loogyhead. The winner will get the first ever pressing of that shirt. Other members will be able to purchase one after the competition is over.
So save the day, join the group and answer the quiz questions for your chance to win!
It’s time to rock the vote and the Doctor needs your help. Andrew Chalmers and the cast and crew of Doctor Who Dark Journey have made the long list for this years Audio Verse Awards.
So just what are the Audio Verse Awards? From their website:
“The Audio Verse Awards is dedicated to celebrating the best in free audio drama. It started as a thread on audiodramatalk, ballooned to a facebook group, then shrunk to these dedicated people (Landon Beall, Alex Gilmour, Gwendolyn Jensen-Woodard, Colin Kelly and Dan Whitelaw) who sat down and helped make the Audio Verse Awards a reality in 2013.”
This year AM Audio Media has 12 nominations for Doctor Who Dark Journey. Your votes today can move them from the long list to the short list. Voting ends November 17th at 11:59 PM.
So why don’t you take a few minutes and give the Cool Beans Doctor and the people who made the show so great a vote to show your appreciation! Vote now!
No, we aren’t talking about Mayor Rob Ford, or even his brother Doug, we are talking about Phil Ford, writer of The Waters Of Mars (the best story during the gap year perhaps) and series 8’s Into The Dalek. Phil will be in Toronto on November 15th appearing exclusively at this DWIN event.
Here’s what they are offering:
Saturday November 15th, join us for Who Party: A Day With Phil Ford. Starting at 12pm at Pauper’s Pub at the corner of Bloor and Bathurst, you can meet the writer of ‘Into the Dalek’, ‘Waters of Mars’ and writer/producer for the Sarah Jane Adventures. We’ll ask Phil what it’s like to write a Doctor Who script, his experiences working with RTD and Moffatt, working on Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood. And there’s more! A fan Q&A with Phil, autograph session and a Doctor Who darts competition! 6 hours of fun for the price of seeing Deep Breath in the movie theatre! This is rare opportunity to meet a man who has worked on all 4 shows in the Doctor Who universe without the lineups and hassle of a major con.
So, if you are in the area or willing to make the trek, come on down and have some fun at the Who Party! For tickets or more info check out their website http://www.dwin.org/whoparty/
Doctor Who Dark Journey writer and star Andrew Chalmers gave an interview to Blue Box Balm where he talks about everything from Jon Pertwee moving him in to his amazing catch phrase (cool beans) to yours truly. Learn how he would unite all sci fi fandom and why he thinks the cast of Big Bang Theory are full of themselves. Take a minute and give it a read, it’s hilarious and you won’t regret it.
Things are heating up for Series 2 of Doctor Who Dark Journey. AM Audio Media has just announced that Aaron Gittoes of Doctor Who Fan Art and Dave Ladkin of Doctor Who artwork by VortexVisuals will on board as cover artists for the new series.
As the convention season draws to a close for another year, you still have one last chance to see a Doctor. Andrew Chalmers and Mike Tamburro will be at the Hamilton Comic Con this Saturday, October 4th! They will be in space 943. Other featured guests include Lou Ferrigno and Julie Newmar. October 10th will mark the one year anniversary since Enemy Of The World and Web Of Fear were announced. What an amazing day that was, breathlessly waiting for the embargo to lift so the world could find out just what missing episodes had come back!
Well the Doctor Who Missing Episodes Discussion Group on Facebook is having a week long event to celebrate those stories and the man who found them, Phil Morris. Starting October 5th, the group will be discussing those seminal stories and the return their impact has had on fandom. The week long celebration will culminate in a special Comment A Long, the “Double 6’s” as it’s been dubbed. On October 12th at 7PM UK time (2PM Central NA) group members will have the opportunity to watch episode 6 of Enemy of the World simultaneously and talk about it live as it happens via a facebook thread. There will be a short break after Enemy and at 7:45PM Web of Fear 6 will be watched and discussed.
But the fun and good times don’t end there. After the dust has settled from the double 6’s there will be a draw for some extremely exclusive and unique prizes. More details to come as they are announced!
f you are already a member of the Facebook group you will get an invite real soon and if you aren’t a member, now would be the perfect time to get on board!
R1 fans know just how long they have to wait before they can get their hands on the latest season of Doctor Who. December 9, 2014 is the official release date over on this side of the pond, just in time for Christmas. No word on special features yet or what it includes, though I would assume it starts with Day Of The Doctor and includes Time Of The Doctor before moving into Series 8 proper with Deep Breath. Stay tune, more details as they come!
