Introducing Podcastrovalva

It is with great pleasure that I welcome Al Miller to the TIMD team. He will be doing podcast reviews for us in a segment called    Podcastrovalva. Al’s fairly new to the Doctor Who world, having become a fan just a few years ago. He’s more than made up for that lost time, his goal is to watch all the classic episodes before the end of this year. His first exposure to the show came way back in 1996 when he saw the last half of the TV Movie. His favourite doctor depends on who he is bingeing on at the moment, right now it is Patrick Troughton. He spends a lot of his time driving and that gives him ample opportunity to listen the all the podcasts he loves, up to a dozen a week.

So what exactly is Podcastrovalva? Al is going to talk about podcasts, new and old, anything he comes across that he likes. He doesn’t plan on a lot of dissection or criticism though. Each and every podcast is a labour of love that someone has put a lot of time and effort into preparing and he respects that.

Lego Tom Baker Needs Some Support

You probably know all about the Lego Doctor Who project that has achieved the needed 10,000 votes before moving on to the next stage, but there’s an awesome underdog that needs our support.

Missing Episodes Found at the M&S Cafe

A humorous look at how obsessed some of us can get over the whole missing episode speculation.

Omni, Omni, Omni

What’s new in the omnirumour from the past week? There was so much that we needed two updates! Avengers and Callan, and the rest. Don’t forget the Omni Bite. Seriously, we had three Omni updates last week? Awesome.

Website Update

A few days ago the news began to trickle through the forums, twitter and facebook that Doctorwhoworldwide.com would be coming back up some time in the next couple of weeks. That’s great news as a lot of us were concerned when it suddenly went down and we were unable to reach the owner/editor. In the vacuum its departure left, I started up TIMD and I have decided to continue on with the site, even if DWW does come back.

Remembering The Rani

Rani

Well, it’s another sad day in the Doctor Who world. Having just lost Derek Martinus a few days ago, I was stunned to come home to the news that Kate O’Mara had passed away. Yes, she was 74, but there was something so feisty, so vital about her that it just seems impossible that she is gone.

So what do you remember O’Mara for? It probably depends on your age. I was too young in the 80’s to watch Dynasty, and so I had no exposure to her until popping Time and the Rani into my dvd player a few years back. Maybe you remember her from Triangle, The Brothers or Howard’s Way? Did you know she did a couple episodes of Z-Cars? Or that she did one of Adam Adamant Lives?

But for me and many like me, she will always be the Rani. Forever immortalized as that character who was 10% evil, 40% cold calculation and 50% sass. We only got 6 short episodes to enjoy (and some don’t even fancy those ones) and yet she will stand tall in Classic Doctor Who history nonetheless.

TIMD-Week 1

I would just like to thank everyone for giving TIMD an awesome first week.  I can tell you we had 2500 views in the past seven days, far exceeding my wildest dreams with a high of 462 on Friday.

But that was just week one.

Even though I started the website as just one man, Gary Morris  and Martin Ruddock have already joined on, contributing an article each with plenty more to come. That’s not all, we will have Al Miller doing podcast reviews soon.

So, we made it through week one, onward and upward. Here’s to a bigger week 2, but I suppose that will all depend on the onmirumour.

Legendary Doctor Who Director Derek Martinus Passes Away

Derek

Derek Martinus has already gone down in Doctor Who history as one of the most important directors the series has ever had. Just take a look at his selected resume . The Tenth Planet, The Evil Of The Daleks and Spearhead From Space. Those are some supremely impressive stories. He was in on Hartnell’s last story, directing the first ever regeneration, and then worked the other side of the situation, helming Pertwee’s debut. That feat made him the first Doctor Who director to use colour. And in between? Evil, arguably one of the greatest Dalek stories of all time and The Ice Warriors. Galaxy 4 was his only other Doctor Who contribution, but even that long neglected story has gained some more fame and appreciation over the past couple years with the return of Episode 3, Air Lock.

Though we will remember him for his contributions to Doctor Who, he did plenty of other shows including Z-Cars and Blake 7, directing until he retired in 1985. He passed away today at the age of 82. We send our condolences to his family.

The Keeper Of The Flame

torch

The news swept across the internet this evening. Doctorwhoworldwide.com is coming back. After weeks of no contact, someone was finally able to get some information regarding  Michael East the owner/editor. There’s no strict timeline, but DWW is going to be coming back online over the next couple of weeks and with it The Panopticon, the forum that many of us know and love.

So where does that leave us? For the past two weeks I have been working hard, getting the news, rumours and opinions out as fast as possible. Don’t forget about the omnirumour updates. It hasn’t always been easy, but it has been fun. And I don’t plan on stopping now. I may have just been the keeper of the flame, but I’m not about to hand back the torch. In the past 5 days this site has had 1650 views. No, that’s not monumental, but it is still pretty awesome. Thanks to everyone for your support, and I hope you will stick with me. As a friend advised me earlier today, there’s a lot of internet out there. Room enough for another Doctor Who site.

Mark Gatiss to write two episodes of who

gatiss

The writer behind such episodes as  The Crimson Horror, Night Terrors and Cold War has confirmed that he’s signed on to pen two more. After rampant twitter speculation as to which two he would do, he came out with the following:

To clarify. I’ve been commissioned to write two episodes of ‘Doctor Who’. That doesn’t mean they’ll both necessarily be in this season.

— Mark Gatiss(@Markgatiss) March 27, 2014

So, do we take that to mean one each, or maybe two next year? Who knows. I’m sure we will get more details as the premiere for Series 8  gets closer.

4th Doctor Lego submission needs your help

LEGO1

By now just about everyone has seen the Lego CUUSOO Doctor Who submission that has managed the 10,000 supporters needed to make it on to the second stage. But there are plenty more great submissions out there. Fan of the new series? Well there’s a cool Tennant tardis set that can use your help. For us fans of the classic show there are less to chose from. Here is my personal favourite, from CreatorBen we get a 4th Doctor set with a classic tardis interior (roundels!), K-9, Davros and Dalek. Unfortunately it is a long way from where it needs to be. A long, long way. So, let’s help out an underdog here, pop on over and give it some support. If only for the roundels. If anyone out there has any Troughton submissions, I would love to see and support them!

Happy Birthday Patrick

94th

It was 94 years ago today, March 25, that Patrick Troughton was born. Pat has been my favourite Doctor for many years and the return of Enemy Of The World and Web Of Fear has only strengthened my love of the 2nd Doctor. I will take this opportunity to say thanks for everything Pat and it’s a shame that you aren’t still with us. If there is any justice in the world, the TV Gods will make the omnirumour turn out to be true, or at least mostly true, and we will get to see more of your genius.

Monday Morning News Round Up March 24th

To start off this Monday Morning News Round Up I would just like to say thank you to everyone who has visited over the past week. I was just getting my feet wet seven days ago, but now things are really rolling. We’ve had 1000 views so far and  two more contributors will be making regular, or semi regular appearances. Please welcome Gary Morris and Martin Ruddock to the Troughton team.

Matt Smith Uses His Soccer Talents For Charity

June 8th you can see Matt Smith kicking some grass in Soccer Aid 2014. He is joining Robbie Williams England team and taking on the Rest Of The World. In The Lodger we got to see just how good the Doctor can play, so Matt has a lot to live up to.

New Series 8 Monster Filmed- Spoilers

A new monster was seen on set this week, since there are spoilers involved I won’t post the pic, but you can check it out here.

Lego Who

Have you fantasized of building your own tardis out of Lego? Well that fantasy could be a reality. Lego CUUSOO was taking fan  submissions for official consideration and GlenBricker had one that met the required number of votes. It moves on to the second stage. Stay tuned via the official page.

From The Ashes Of doctorwhoworldwide.com

Well, it’s been two weeks since DWW went down. We were told that it was just changing servers, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. In its absence this site has attempted to keep the DWW faithful up to date on the latest news, opinion and rumours. Panopticon member Pascal Salzmann has started a facebook group to continue discussion as well.

Omnirumour

Unless you’ve been living under a rock on Mars, you’ve heard the latest omnirumour news. But if you are a Martian insect, or maybe were just offline at the wrong time, here’s a full rundown on the latest.
